[Gatine (Georges Jacques)]

depicting the famous entertainer who would swallow anything, here seen on stage about to eat a live mouse followed by a snake, his young assistant taking roses from the elegant young ladies in the audience to add to the sword he is holding out in readiness to the popular Parisian performer. This plate was engraved by Gatine after Louis Marie Lanté, and is No. 93 from ‘Le Bon Genre’, a series of prints showing French social life and fashion in the early 19th century,
