the original artwork used for the front cover of The Spectator magazine, published on 20th September, 1969, a ‘big head’ portrait of the highly influential West German economist and SPD politician, Karl August Fritz Schiller (1911-1994), Federal Minister of Economic Affairs from 1966 to 1972, depicted sitting pensively with his hands together behind a very orderly desk and a bank of telephones.

Richard Willson (1939-2011) began as a cartoonist for The Observer in 1968, before moving to The Times and Sunday Times in the early 1970s. His popular and distinctive work also frequently appeared in The Spectator, Washington Post, New Statesman, and New Scientist,.
