plate 18 of ‘Eccentric Excursions, or Literary & Pictorial Sketches of Countenance, Character & Country in different parts of England & South Wales’, a narrative tour comprising humorous anecdotes from various towns. This plate is a circular court scene set in the Old Bailey in London, a deaf old judge leans forward to listen to the barrister at his side who is pointing to the witness who, in turn, is shouting his evidence. In between sit several other clerks and sarjeants-at-arms, distinguished by the black patch on their wigs, while an usher leans back asleep in his chair below the witness box. In the background can be seen the jury below a statue of justice, with the public gallery up above,
