a well-observed set of four equestrian scenes by the master aquatint engraver, Jean Pierre Marie Jazet (1788-1871), after the master painter of horses, Antoine Charles Horace Vernet, known as Carle Vernet (1758-1836), neatly subdividing into two pairs, ‘La Sortie de l’Ecurie’ with ‘L’Entrée à l’Ecurie’, and ‘L’Intérieur de l’Ecurie’ with ‘Le Palfrenier Surveillant’, the interior scenes in particular demonstrate the artist’s intimate understanding of the febrile nature of the thoroughbred horses depicted,
