the internationally famous pilgrimage site and home of the Santa Casa, the house of the Virgin Mary supposedly transposed miraculously from Nazareth to this low hill just inland from the Adriatic coast south of Ancona, in fact transported as a pile of stones by returning Crusaders who could carry them no further, here depicted seamlessly blending into the rustic landscape that surrounds it and has nurtured it for centuries,
