considered a significant map from Ortelius’s ‘Parergon’ atlas of ancient geography, first issued with the 1579 edition of the larger ‘Theatrum’, this date being engraved lover left. Charting the missionary travels of St Paul around the Eastern Mediterranean, it extends from Italy to the Middle East and the coast of North Africa, including Greece, Turkey, Israel, and Cyprus, with a central title panel, above, flanked by oval vignettes of the conversion of Saul to St Paul on the road to Damascus, and his shipwreck on the island of Malta where he converted the local inhabitants. An early issue of this map, with French text on verso of page no.110, before the change of spelling of various place names from around 1582,.
