, , c.1930.
David Strang (1887-1967) was the son of William Strang RA, and brother of Ian Strang RE, a family of eminent etchers. David studied at Glasgow University and, after serving in the Royal Engineers in the First World War, he became an active exemplar of the etching revival in the 1920s. Over and above his own artistic output was the highly skilled and much admired printing of the the works of others, notably that of his father, William, as well as Edmund Blampied, Orovida Camille Pissarro, Robert Austin, and Geoffrey Wedgwood who described him as ‘the greatest printer who ever was’. In the context of this mutual support and admiration between printmakers, it is worth noting that Strang has dedicated this particular plate to another highly respected etcher, H. Gordon Warlow..
