a detailed plan of the City of Florence, based on Ferdinando Ruggieri’s plan of 1731, with north oriented to the bottom, a revised, dated, title panel in the upper left corner, the symbolic lily of Florence in an oval cartouche, upper right, and a scenic vignette in the lower left corner with the allegorical spirit of the river Arno as an old man, reclining beside tall reeds, accompanied by Marzocco, the lion of Florence, with the Palazzo Vecchio and the Duomo in the background. This plan, originally published earlier in the 19th century, was re-issued at this time of great political upheaval, when the duke of Tuscany finally granted the city its first constitution. The advertisement conveys Molini’s reputation as a true bibliophile, keen to share his passion with the many foreign visitors to his culturally and historically exceptional city.
