Willson (Richard)

caricatured portrait of the Welsh artist, Augustus Edwin John, OM, RA, (1878-1961), most noted for his figure studies and portraits, though with an early passion for landscapes, particularly North Wales and the South of France, here depicted in old age, with beret and pipe, seated at his easel with brushes and palette.

Richard Willson (1939-2011) began as a cartoonist for The Observer in 1968, before moving to The Times and Sunday Times in the early 1970s. His popular and distinctive work also frequently appeared in The Spectator, Washington Post, New Statesman, and New Scientist,
