the Mosque of Sultan Suleyman and the Mosque of Achmet I, a pair of full-page illustrations from ‘Eiglentiche Beschreibung von den Türcken’, part of Happel’s ‘Thesaurus Exoticorum’, an encyclopaedic collection of journalistic writings on travel, politics, science and other contemporary affairs. It largely concentrates on the Islamic world, particularly the Turkish wars in Europe, but is also of great interest for including a significant sections on America. The last part is noted for containing the first complete translation of the Qu’ran into German (2).
